Wednesday Wippet

I wasn’t actually going to do a Wednesday Wippet this week, but I didn’t get a chance to come up with anything else.  So here are (slightly more than) 18 lines for the 18th — from the same miscellaneous piece I shared last time.

Duncan awarded her his most charming smile.  “I think not,” he said.  “But don’t worry, I’m a light sleeper.”

“Aw,” she feigned dismay.  “You don’t trust me?”

“I trust no woman, save my mother, and her only because she’s dead.”  He swung his cloak off his shoulders and draped it over hers.  “This should keep the chill off.”

She grabbed him by the belt and jerked him close.  “There are other ways to keep the chill off,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

The heat of her body rose through him, starting between his legs, which made thinking more of a chore than normal.  He extracted her fingers from behind his belt, held her wrists, and brought her hands up between them.

“That,” he said, “is precisely why I don’t trust women.”

Even in the dark, her eyes were bright.  Duncan saw them flick downwards, then sweep lazily back up to his face as effectively as a caress.  “Are you suggesting you don’t want me?”

“I’d take you like a wild dog if I thought there weren’t other motives behind your ploy,” he said, his voice husky.  He cleared his throat.  “But for tonight, I’ll let the chill of the night be my mistress.”

Write on!

    • Thanks, Devin, if I ever figure out exactly where it’s going, or what it wants to be, I may finish it. 😉

    • Most definitely. As he says about himself later, “Honor? Nothing so lofty, love. More like self-preservation. I’m a selfish, greedy, charlatan. Don’t let anyone tell you any different.”

  3. Ooh, I like this a lot: Even in the dark, her eyes were bright. Duncan saw them flick downwards, then sweep lazily back up to his face as effectively as a caress. “Are you suggesting you don’t want me?”
