Sunday ROW80 Check-In & A WIPeteer Cheer
Wow, yes, I’m actually on time doing a ROW80 Sunday check-in! That, in and of itself, is incredible. Not only a check-in, but some actual word counts. Drum roll, please!
- First draft of Emergence now stands at 97,663/110k.
- First draft of Crossing Paths jumped to nearly 18k. If you missed my Wednesday WIPpet, I shared Rainie and Ethan’s official introduction to one another.
- Even though it wasn’t included in my original ROW80 goals, The First House has become an official WIP, so I’m going to include it here. I’m a tad over 16k. I haven’t visited the boys lately but I’ll be getting back to them soon. I’m thinking of releasing the first episode of the serial on Wattpad. I don’t know much about it, though, so am closely watching fellow There & Draft Again member Mara Valderran’s venture. Anyone else have any experience with Wattpad?
I‘ve managed to add words to both Emergence and Crossing Paths this week. Weekends are actually bad for me as far as writing because I need to get caught up on a ton of other things, and then there’s that lovely painting the house project that will likely take us all summer. That or graduations, weddings, dog-related events . . . all those other aspects of my life. I’m still confident I’ll get the first draft of Emergence wrapped up before the end of the month. My plan is to let it sit for a while — which in my impatient world is defined as a week or so — then print out a hard copy and read it through, making chapter notes, plot foibles, character issues. Once I have a second draft I’ll probably chuck it at a few readers for an initial glance, before really diving in with the trimming shears.
Onto the WIPpeteer Cheer, which isn’t so much of a cheer and more a shout-out. If you’ve been following my blog, you’ve no doubt noticed what happens on Wednesdays. I have to say that I am not the originator of WIPpet Wednesday. I stumbled upon it maybe a year or so ago, it waned a bit, then disappeared. I have just attempted to reincarnate it.
This week we had thirteen bloggers (besides me) add their links and share a bit of their writing with us. From week to week the list may vary. New participants are always welcome as our WIPpeteer meme states:
They are an awesome group from all over the globe. Humorous, fun, supportive — and I’m taking great delight in getting to know them better via the various on-line venues. Writing styles vary, as do the genres they choose to write in, but each of them is telling their stories in their own unique voices. Some are already published, some on their way, some still getting that first novel finished, some
of the more insane of the group have multiple WIPs going. If you haven’t visited their blogs, I ask you to do so. Show them some support and readerly love, cause they deserve it. And if you want to join in WIPpet Wednesdays, feel free.
Current WIPpeteers (in no particular order): Ink and Papyrus Dreaming of Other Realms Kate Frost Disregard the Prologue A Keyboard & an Open Mind Elaine Jeremiah Many Worlds From Many Minds Let Imagination Soar Adrian J. Smith Regi McClain Lightly Salted The Girl Who Writes Trueborn Jottings and even though we haven’t seen her for a while, the one who introduced me to WIPpet Wednesday so long ago, the awesome Krista Walsh over at The Raven’s Quill.
Most of us are on Twitter as well and can sometimes be seen flinging around the hashtag #WIPpeteers in some lively conversations. Feel free to join in. Have a great Sunday!
