Never Met a WIP Like You Before
I’m always listening to music. Doesn’t matter what I’m doing, everything goes better with tunes. Okay, so there are some things I don’t listen to music while doing (except maybe in my head) — training the dogs, sleeping, eating — anyhow, yesterday I heard a song I haven’t heard in a while that just nailed some of the emotions of Ethan, the main character in Crossing Paths, particularly these lines:
You give me just a taste so I want more
Now my hands are bleeding and my knees are raw
Cos now you’ve got me crawlin’, crawlin’ on the floor
And I’ve never met a girl like you before
You’ve made me acknowledge the devil in me
Although I haven’t written much on Crossing Paths being that I’m still trying to finalize Emergence for the few, the brave, the Betas, I decided to share the song and a scene. First, the song so you can listen to it while you read.
And now the scene. 7 paragraphs for August 7th. And, just so we’re clear, Ethan is holding a dagger that’s at least a good foot long, and yes, it’s Rainie he’s talking to. They are facing off in an alleyway where Ethan was about to . . . well . . . do his job. Yeah, he needs a special dagger for that.
Instinct moved Ethan so the kick aimed at disabling him barely skimmed his leg. “What the Sam hell?”
He backed a step as his attacker spun and put herself between him and his target. Ethan rolled his eyes.
“What is it with you?” he said. “Why are you suddenly all up in my business?”
The woman shrugged, emerald eyes narrowed. “Let’s just say you rub me the wrong way.”
“Sweetie, I haven’t rubbed you at all, but I guarantee it wouldn’t be the wrong way.”
She glowered at him. “Why don’t you put down the butter knife and go home?”
“Look, I don’t want to hurt you,” Ethan said. “But this has nothing to do with you, and if you stay here it’s not going to end well.”
Now, as usual, go check out what the other WIPpeteers are offering in their various genres. And if you feel like joining in, please do! Open invitation.
