Do You Know What Day it Is?

Hump day?

No, silly camel. WIPpet Wednesday. Mine is sort and sweet as I have ten minutes before I have to take dogs out and then get my butt off to the dayjob. I promise a catch-up post one of these days. Maybe part of Fictional Friday.

Anyhow, for the second of July, two paragraphs from the nonWIP WIP that everyone seems to be enjoying. Continuing right on from where we left off last week with Dachus putting his foot in…well…several things. You can read the excerpt here, I’ve also given you the last bit  of it prior to this weeks offering, just to give you the roll-in…

Dachus snorted. “You can’t be a Dracon Master, you’re a –“

She arched a dark, slender brow at him and leaned back against the dragon’s upper shoulder, arms folded across her chest. And the beast — Dachus swore it chuckled at him.

He cleared his throat and brushed imaginary lint from his brocade doublet. “What I mean is, I didn’t realize the Dracon Court accepted half–“

The woman’s eyes narrowed, and the dragon’s head angled toward Dachus, lips pulling back just enough to reveal a hint of tooth.

Have a great Fourth of July holiday if you’re in the states, and an otherwise grand week if you’re not. 🙂

  1. Dig up, Dachus, up! Nope, he’s just going to keep digging himself further into that hole, isn’t he? This made me literally laugh out loud.

    • Glad it gave you a laugh. But poor Dachus, he’s only just scraped the top soil in his hole digging, I’m afraid.

  2. Amy

I like that he thinks the dragon is laughing at him. He kind of deserves it. Okay, he *really* deserves it.

    July 2, 2014 at 7:35 am

    • He may deserve a bit more before he’s done. 😉

      July 4, 2014 at 7:07 am

  3. Oh my word. He keeps putting his foot in his mouth. And if he keeps talking, his foot may be in the dragon’s mouth.

    July 2, 2014 at 8:42 am

    • It’s lucky for him, even the young dragons here are well-behaved…for the most part.

  4. Someone needs to duct tape is mouth shut fast! lol He keeps digging himself a deeper grave.

    July 2, 2014 at 8:55 am

    • He is so far out of his depth here. He is going to get educated very quickly. Well, if he’s a fast learner that is. Otherwise, I really can’t say how far he’ll make it.

      July 4, 2014 at 7:09 am

      • Educated quickly in the art if inserting mouth into foot!

        July 4, 2014 at 8:02 am

      • I think he’s already a pro at that!

        July 4, 2014 at 8:04 am

      • Not quite if he keep talking and making it worse!!

        July 4, 2014 at 8:05 am

  5. Dachus just keeps stepping in deeper, doesn’t he?

    July 2, 2014 at 10:49 am

    • Yes, and his shoes aren’t very tall. 😉

      July 4, 2014 at 7:09 am

  6. Good lordy, but this boy knows how to put his foot in it! Hey, Dachus, do you NOT see that huge dragon within flaming distance?!

I like this more and more as you tease us and give us just a wee little bit more each week. And I’ll admit, I hadn’t thought Dachus was the brocade type.

And with that, my comment is almost longer than your WIPpet! =)

    • He has led somewhat of a sheltered life. Privileged. Led to believe that he is above everyone else. Poor, niave man.

      July 4, 2014 at 7:25 am

      • Poor man indeed!

Why do I get the feeling that he’s going to get a swift, fiery, and potentially lethal education?! =D

  7. Another great excerpt Kathi. Dachus is just digging himself a deeper and deeper hole really, isn’t he? 🙂

    July 2, 2014 at 12:02 pm

    • Some people just seem to have a talent for that. 😉

  8. Half what? I’m as amused as everyone else is regarding Dachus foot-in-mouth syndrome, but I want to know of what this woman is half!

    July 2, 2014 at 5:31 pm

    • I’m not entirely sure even I know half what at this point. I’d have to read further…

      July 4, 2014 at 7:27 am

  9. I agree with ReGi! Half what??

I almost feel sorry for Dachus. Almost.

    July 3, 2014 at 1:25 am

    • Oh, don’t waste your sympathy on him! Hee, hee.

      July 4, 2014 at 7:27 am

      • If you say so! I just always feel sorry for the overly enthusiastic one…

        July 4, 2014 at 8:50 am

  10. hahaha, foot-in-mouth syndrome, love it. At least he’s smart enough to realize it is NOT a good thing to piss off a dragon, and several attempts to say the wrong thing is at least trying to, you know, say the right thing.
