Well Met for WIPpet Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!! It sure does come around in a hurry, doesn’t it. Short and sweet because I’ve written basically nothing over the past week. Well, I’ve written words. None I’ll likely keep.

Anyhow, I’m back to The Adorned this week, but glad Shae and Brenner received much love last week. (Still considering that name change, Ruth.) This week’s WIPpet follows right along with Roe and Riddle’s scene from here, and begins with Riddle talking. Because of the first draft nature of this, there are two bracketed words which means I’ll fill them in once I know what to fill them in with. πŸ˜€ For the 25th of February, you get what might be 27 sentences (month + day). Then again, I may have counted wrong, but you get them anyhow.

“Bring the Adorned to Guiler’s by moonrise tomorrow.”

“How am I –“

Without appearing to move, Riddle suddenly sat so close Roe could smell the [something] rising from her skin. “We’ve got years between us, Gild Fingers. Isn’t that so? Good years by my memory.”

Roe didn’t dare to so much as twitch. “Good years by mine.”

“I’d hate to do that memory the injustice of sending you to [godofthieves], and then having to tell Pip. He’d take it hard. He’s a spot for you almost as soft as mine.”

“Rid–“

A single gloved finger rose into the tiny space between them to silence her. “You’re working for the Adorned. Helping him find something he’s lost. Tell him you found it, take him to Guiler’s, walk away. Go back to what you do best, Roe.” The hand reached out to tenderly cup her cheek. “You know I don’t ever want to be the cause of your end.”

“I’d rather you weren’t either.”

“You’ve got tonight. Tumble the man. He’ll be worth it, I can tell just watching him move. If Pip didn’t have my heart, I might just ask my Prince for a little time with the Adorned before the end.” Riddle guided Roe’s face to the opening of her hood and their lips brushed. “For the memories.”

And as a bonus for you Roe and Fader fans, my artistic muse would like to reward your steadfast loyalty with the following sketch entitled First Meeting. Hope you enjoy it.

  2. It may be early morning here (7:00 a.m.) and I thought I was awake. However, I truly awoke when I read, “Tumble the man. He’ll be worth it…”

I love how you use words! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ ❀ Have a great day.

    • Thanks! Glad I could help wipe the sleep from your head. Hee, hee.

  3. My blood pressure shot up ten points with these lines: “He’ll be worth it, I can tell just watching him move.” And then you had to go and show us that drawing.
    I’m fanning myself now.

    • There are more drawings planned. I will dole them out as I go along. Glad you enjoyed it.

  5. I love the scene that goes with that sketch. πŸ™‚

So now I’m trying to figure out Riddle and Roe’s relationship. Mentor, maybe? I know the kiss would imply something else in our culture, but I haven’t spent enough time in Roe’s culture to jump to that conclusion without more details. And Riddle strikes me as the kind of person who would kiss someone just to throw them off balance. Maybe you covered it before but I’m a little off balance myself today, so apologies if I’m forgetting something.

    • Ah, Riddle and Roe’s relationship. Yeah. Hmmmm. Not entirely sure. I really didn’t expect the kiss. Riddle did that without warning me. She is someone who would do that, as you said, to throw someone off. Then again, maybe it was something more. I’m not sure at this point.

      • Dern those tight-lipped characters. Why do they gotta make our lives so complicated?

        March 1, 2015 at 5:15 pm

  6. Ooh, I do love a character split between two loyalties. And that sketch is gorgeous! I wish I had an artistic muse as well!

    February 25, 2015 at 3:29 pm

    • Thanks, Emily. Roe is really going to find herself split in this situation. Fader has served to turn her life completely inside out. Or will be.

  7. The surreal movements of Riddle and this line β€œYou know I don’t ever want to be the cause of your end.” Yup. Go and tumble for now… it may be your last opportunity… πŸ™‚
    Nice.

    February 25, 2015 at 6:42 pm

    • Thanks. Riddle is a bit surreal. She’s also no one I would ever want to be on the bad side of, that’s for sure.

  8. I admit I don’t really get what’s going on here but I like the tension in the dialogue. Love the sketch too

    February 25, 2015 at 7:25 pm

    • Out of context will do that, won’t it? In a nutshell, Riddle is an assassin and has basically told Roe to hand over Fader and forget about him.

      March 1, 2015 at 8:42 am

  9. I love this so much I don’t even know where to start. Um. Um. Um. Okay. TENSION. I love the tension. I love the subtle twisting of the loyalty knife. I don’t know the specifics of the relationship, but I can already tell it’s interesting. And this: “Tumble the man. He’ll be worth it, I can tell just watching him move.” – Yum. ❀

    February 26, 2015 at 2:49 am

    • Aw…thanks. πŸ˜€ Roe better be careful the loyalty knife doesn’t become an actual knife.

      March 1, 2015 at 8:43 am

  10. No, Roe, don’t do it! gah, you’re trying to kill me, right?
    Loved the snippet!

    February 26, 2015 at 4:52 am

  11. Okay, first – beautiful sketch – I have no artistic ability whatsoever. And I’m with everyone else – β€œTumble the man. He’ll be worth it, I can tell just watching him move.” You definitely have a way with words!

    February 26, 2015 at 9:42 am

    • Thanks — on both counts.

      March 1, 2015 at 8:44 am

  12. I’m with everyone else who really enjoyed the tumble line. πŸ™‚

But the rest of the scene was great too. Like all the complicated relationships developing here. *g*

    February 26, 2015 at 2:01 pm

    • You know, Roe thinks her life is (was) fairly simple and straight-forward. She’s yet to convince me of that, and every time I turn around it just gets worse!

      March 1, 2015 at 8:45 am

  13. The tension between Riddle and Roe is so thick you could slice it–I love it. I really want to find out more about their past now, that Riddle is so effortlessly intimate with Roe, and that Roe is so very divided in her loyalties now.

I love the pic too! Love the natural posing the most, I think, followed by the lighting. Absolutely lovely. ❀

    February 27, 2015 at 7:14 am

    • Thanks much, Pax! I think Riddle is asking for her own story at some point. I’m trying to ignore her. She wasn’t even supposed to be this involved and now – bam!

      March 1, 2015 at 8:46 am

  14. Now that’s a way to deliver bad news. Riddle has style. Now, will Roe take her advice, I wonder… πŸ˜‰

    February 27, 2015 at 7:22 pm

    • Roe would like to take her advice. It’s very sensible advice considering who it’s coming from. And at this point she owes Fader nothing…

      March 1, 2015 at 8:47 am

  15. Ooooh how exciting! I wonder what Roe will do…

    February 28, 2015 at 12:08 pm

    • I just found out Friday what Roe is going to do. Maybe I’ll share that next week. OR maybe something else. *whistles innocently*
